“I wonder what’s happening to that ol’ 2001 typeface of mine”, I thought to myself. And now I know: Almost nothing is happening.
…except for the fact that Beastie Boys is using it in their media player! If you ask me, that’s pretty darn sweet. Pretty sweet to the max, if I may add.
I actually stopped linking to this about four years ago, but since my teen-heroes could find a use for it; here it is again in all its free downloadable glory.
It features lower-case and smallcaps, as well as a few alternative characters and a fake oblique.
Get it here:
Anton (opentype for Mac and PC)
If you use it for anything I’d be happy to hear about it!
Yesterday I came across this excellent typography blog, TypeNeu, which at the same time had just posted this exciting news:
FontShop have released FontStruct, an online free font-editor where everybody can join the fun and design their own typefaces, using an array of geometrical shapes and simple tools. The result can be generated as a truetype font which you can use on macs as well as pcs.
You’d think the nature of the program would produce loads of minimalistic typefaces like this, but the gallery shows a lot of creativity, including this guy that have created a blackletter face!
If the author allows it, you can even clone their work and redesign it. This will surely be interesting to follow.
Hooray for FontShop and FontStruct!
